It went worse than I expected and also better than I expected.
I took most of the fall off — busy at work, moved apartments, general life stuff. When I came back to the game in December my thumbs remembered nothing.
First match: 0-4. Second match: 1-5. Third match: I disconnected on purpose because my roommate walked in and I was embarrassed.
Week one back was rough but not for the reasons I expected. Mechanically I was fine after a day or two — hands remember more than you think. What I lost was game sense. Rotations felt like guesswork. I kept ball-chasing without knowing it.
Week two was a lot better. I rewatched two of my old replays from before the break and it clicked back pretty fast. There's something about seeing yourself play well that recalibrates you faster than any tutorial.
If you're thinking about coming back after a long break: don't play ranked for at least a few days. You'll drop hundreds of MMR you don't need to lose. Casual until it feels normal, then ranked. Your future self will thank you.
