I Have a Friend Who Refuses to Try Controller and I Respect It

Kind of a rant but also kind of not.

One of my duo partners has been Grand Champ on touch for a year and a half. I have showed him this guide. I have offered to lend him a controller. I have brought him a controller to his house. He will not use it.

For a while this drove me insane. Just try it! You'd be a demon on a stick! But last month I finally asked him why and his answer stuck with me.

He said something like: 'Playing on touch is a specific skill I built. If I switch, I'm not better at Sideswipe — I'm just at zero at a different game. I like being good at the game I'm actually playing.'

That's fair. I think about that whenever I see someone gatekeep controller as the 'real' way to play. It's not. Sideswipe on touch is a legitimate discipline and the best touch players are doing things most of us can't even parse in slow motion.

Anyway, play what you love. I'll still be here yelling at him to try a controller.
