The Worst Sideswipe Advice I Ever Followed

A creator I respect told me to do this and I lost a full rank before I realized it wasn't for me.

I'm not going to name them because they're actually great and it wasn't malicious. But a Champ-level content creator I follow made a whole video about how every serious player should be double-jumping into every aerial approach. Faster air roll, better angle control, all of it.

So I did that. For a month. And I got worse. Like, noticeably worse.

Turns out my playstyle relies on a lot of low, fast touches — I'm not really an aerial player, I'm a rebound/positioning player. Double-jumping into every approach used up my flip on plays where I actually needed it for a redirect. My scoring dropped, my saves dropped, everything dropped.

The lesson isn't that the advice was bad. It's that no one else knows how you play. Advice from a high-rank player is a hypothesis, not a prescription. Try things for a week, but if your stats and your gut are both saying it's not working, stop doing it.
