I held out for months. Then one ranked match on the bus changed my mind and I never went back.
I remember the exact match. Diamond III, last 20 seconds, ball rolling toward my net, and my thumb slipped off the boost pad because the guy next to me on the bus shifted his elbow. Own goal. I closed the app and just stared out the window like an idiot.
That was the night I actually dug my old Xbox controller out of the drawer. I'd been telling myself touch was fine — I'd hit Champ once on it, so how bad could it be? Turns out, bad. Once I started playing with sticks, I couldn't unsee how much I'd been fighting the screen instead of the opponent.
The first week was rough. My air dribbles were worse, my rotations felt slow, muscle memory was gone. I lost like 200 MMR. But by week two something clicked — I was reading the ball again instead of hunting for a spot on the glass to tap. My hands didn't cramp after three games. I could actually breathe.
If you're on the fence, this is my only real advice: give it two weeks. Not two matches. Two weeks. Your thumbs will thank you and your ranked will too.
